Abstract This paper presents the first academic study, in literature, that investigate the content applied to independent Latin American newsletters. This research collects a sample of 12 newsletters from experts of recognized prestige in the area. To develop this research, a double methodology is applied, on the one hand, the Curation Analysis System evaluation protocol is applied and, on the other hand, semi-structured interviews, with five newsletters editors. This article confirms that all the newsletters adequately apply in dimensions of content and curation, and the Argentine newsletter Copano that obtains the best score. Regarding the results of the interviews, it confirms, among other things, the importance of the newsletter as one of the information products most respected by readers, and its strategic value for independent creators and media.
Resumen Este trabajo presenta el primer estudio académico existente en la literatura sobre la curación de contenidos aplicada a newsletters independientes latinoamericanas. Esta investigación recoge una muestra de 12 boletines a partir de la consulta a expertos de reconocido prestigio. Para desarrollar esta investigación se aplica una metodología doble, por un lado, se aplica el protocolo de evaluación Curation Analysis System y, por otro lado, entrevistas semiestructuradas a cinco de los editores de los boletines analizados. Este trabajo confirma que todas las newsletters aplican de manera adecuada las dimensiones de contenidos y de curación, y es la newsletter argentina Copano la que mejor puntuación obtiene. Respecto a los resultados de las entrevistas se confirma, entre otras cosas, la importancia de la newsletter como uno de los productos informativos más respetados por los lectores, y su valor estratégico para creadores independientes y medios de comunicación.
